Position Overview

Majesty Brands is seeking an experienced Product Development Manager with a strong apparel product background to manage fast-paced development from initial concept through production-ready handoff.

This is a highly hands-on, product-focused role requiring a strong understanding of fabric, garment construction, sourcing, costing, and product execution . The ideal candidate will have a foundation in apparel design before transitioning into Product Development, or equally strong technical product expertise with deep knowledge of fabric and apparel costing.

Working closely with Product Development, Production, Global Sourcing, Design, Sales, and overseas factories, this role will turn customer requests, reference samples, CADs, and market opportunities into commercially viable, cost-competitive products. Direct experience developing apparel for the off-price retail channel is required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage apparel development from initial customer request, reference sample, CAD, or concept through production-ready handoff.
  • Translate product concepts and customer requests into clear factory development instructions and commercially viable products.
  • Evaluate product feasibility based on fabric, construction, quality, target cost, MOQ, factory capability, and delivery.
  • Own development costing and understand the impact of fabric, consumption, construction, trims, labor/CM, embellishments, packaging, duty, and tariffs.
  • Source and evaluate fabrics, trims, constructions, and manufacturing solutions based on product intent, quality, cost, MOQ, and lead time.
  • Identify cost-engineering opportunities and alternative fabrications, constructions, trims, or factories to achieve target cost and timing.
  • Work directly with overseas factories and vendors on sourcing, costing, sample development, materials, quality, and timelines.
  • Review development samples for fabric, hand feel, construction, measurements, workmanship, color, print, trims, functionality, and overall product execution.
  • Manage aggressive development calendars and drive rapid sample turnaround while minimizing unnecessary development rounds.
  • Partner with Sales to understand customer requirements, target prices, quantities, delivery expectations, and changing priorities.
  • Partner with Design to maintain product intent while achieving required cost and manufacturability.
  • Partner with Production, Global Sourcing, and Product Development to ensure a complete and accurate production-ready handoff.
  • Manage a high volume of simultaneous developments and reprioritize quickly based on customer urgency and business opportunity.
  • Clearly communicate when a product, price, MOQ, or timeline is not achievable and proactively provide commercially viable alternatives.
  • Maintain accurate development trackers, costing history, vendor quotations, and product documentation.

Experience & Skills

  • Strong apparel product knowledge and ability to evaluate product from both a creative and commercial perspective.
  • Deep understanding of fabric, garment construction, trims, manufacturing processes, and apparel costing.
  • Strong fabric knowledge, including composition, weight, construction, hand feel, performance, consumption, sourcing, and cost implications.
  • Strong costing and cost-engineering skills with the ability to identify the specific components driving garment cost.
  • Excellent product judgment with the ability to quickly assess quality, construction, cost, factory capability, and commercial viability.
  • Strong understanding of the off-price business model, including quick-turn development, aggressive target costing, flexible sourcing, and rapidly changing priorities.
  • Strong vendor negotiation, sourcing, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage a high volume of developments and perform effectively under pressure in a fast-paced, high-visibility role.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; experience with PLM, ERP, Airtable, or similar product management systems preferred.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional apparel Product Development experience required.
  • Direct experience developing apparel for the off-price retail channel required.
  • Experience working with major U.S. off-price retailers strongly preferred.
  • Strong apparel costing and fabric knowledge required.
  • Experience developing apparel from concept, CAD, reference sample, or customer request through production-ready handoff.
  • Experience working directly with overseas factories and vendors required.
  • Background in apparel design prior to Product Development strongly preferred.
  • Experience with licensed brands and private-label programs preferred.
  • Experience in intimates, underwear, sleepwear, loungewear, activewear, or related apparel categories preferred.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship. Majesty Brands does not provide employment visa sponsorship for this position.
